Yummy, sweet potatoes!

Life with a baby is full of firsts.  They are all exciting, but as a mom, some make me kinda sad.  It's hard to explain because I love watching her learn and explore new things.  It's just that with each day that passes she seems to become more independent....I know, I know.....that's a good thing, but I guess I'm afraid she wont always NEED me like she does now.  I am being totally selfish, I realize this, but I can't help it.  But I guess deep down I know she'll always need me, I'm her mama and a girl always needs her mama.

I have breastfed Blakely exclusively, she despises bottles and paci's, basically anything rubber.  So I have been her only source of food, her "lifeline" if you will.  I have felt bad at times for Jeff because he has not been able to share in the bonding of feeding our daughter.  But I know it is the BEST thing for my baby, and I have loved being the only one to be able to give her exactly what she needs.  I say it's a perk of having had to go through labor and delivery, so there!  Recently, Blakely has been showing more interest in our food.  She reaches out for our forks when we're eating dinner with her mouth wide open....couldn't be more clear than that, I suppose.

So, I decided it was finally time for her first experience with solid food.  Hilarious!!!  She enjoyed a bowl of Gerber's finest, sweet potatoes!  LOVED. IT.  The first few bites were taken cautiously, and with a few shivers, but she soon got the hang of it and ate the whole bowl full!
Not so sure about this stuff.

Mid-shiver!!

Lovin' some sweet potatoes!
Oh Blakely, you are so funny!  I guess it had to happen eventually, and I'm okay with it.  I mean, really, I didn't want to be one of those weird mothers who is still breastfeeding when there kid is like 4.  Blakely is still nursing mostly, but we'll continue to try some other fruits and veggies along the way.  But remember....
p.s.-- That's my brother-in-law posing under the billboard!

Fall fun!

Jeff's parents were in town for a long weekend and boy did we have some fun!  Jeff's mom, Lynn, came in on Wednesday of last week and we had some girl time with Blakely.  Lynn hadn't seen Blakely since she was born, she has changed so much so it was really fun for us to spend some time together.  We took Blakely to a pumpkin patch and took some adorable pictures!  It was such gorgeous weather outside, perfect for fall!  The next day we took Blakely to Ellijay.  We had a great time walking around and old antique shops and finding cute salt and pepper shakers (Lynn collects them).  We spent the rest of the weekend hanging out and relaxing.  We also fed Blakely solid food for the first time!!  That requires a blog of it's own!

There are tons more of the pumpkin patch, but those are just some of the cutest!  We had a great time in Ellijay, there's just somethin' about those small towns that is so charming and so southern.

I'm amazed at how much love I feel for her!

Blakely just loves her grammy and poppy!  I wish they could see her more often than they do, but it does makes the time much more special when we get to be together

Finally, a family photo!  Usually I am the one taking pictures so I treasure this!

in the wee hours

Lately Blakely has had a herder time falling asleep at night.  I have thought of several reasons as to why this is happening.  For starters, she drifts off to sleep at 8 or 9 at night, but then wakes up at 10:30 ready to rock 'n roll.  Also, I think she is starting to teeth.  I can't see anything yet, but I can feel a very small bump in her gum that may be an emerging little baby tooth *tear*  She doesn't have any other symptoms of teething yet like the diarrhea or fever so....who knows.

Point is, despite the fact that I'm exhausted when midnight rolls around, and I really want Blakely to fall asleep, I love love love holding her, rocking her, snuggling her, kissing her, and rubbing her little fuzzy head until she falls asleep.  Those wee hours of the night, and morning in some cases, are absolutely priceless to me.  Jeff always tells me to put her down and let her fall asleep on her own, and sometimes I do, but I just can't help myself.  That sweet little face just calls to me.  I'm not going to be able to do this forever and I am going to take advantage of every second that she is small enough to scoop up in my arms!

I'm going to be like the mom in this book.  One of my all-time favorites!

It is in those wee hours that I thank God for her and the life I have been blessed with.  When the house is silent and everyone is asleep, but me, I think about how lucky I am.  I think about the kind of wife and mother I want to be and the kind woman I want to help Blakely become.  A true southern belle who is smart, classy, polite, generous, loving and in love.  I want her to appreciate the small things in life.  To always be curious and imaginative.  To love nature and all of the creatures in it.  I want to show her the world and protect her from it all at the same time.  These are the things I think about when everyone else is dreaming.  Oh Blakely, you have changed me forever.

"I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always.  As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be."

Boo!

Halloween is just around the corner and it's one of the first holidays that is going to be more fun with a kid around.  Don't even get me started on Christmas...that is going to be a blast!  I can't wait for the years when my daughter creeps into my room at 5 in the morning and whispers "mom, can we go see if Santa came yet?"  But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  Halloween comes first and even though Blakely won't be trick or treating this year, I am still so excited to make her costume and dress her up!  My inspiration came from a little lamb that my grandma gave me the day I was born.  Her name is Lambie and this year Blakely will become my little Lambie!
She's in pretty good shape for being 26 years old!

She is going to be so darn cute!  I borrowed my moms sewing machine for this little project, and it has made me realize how much I need one of those bad boys for myself!  I decided to make Blakely's costume for a few reasons.  For starters, you can't beat a price of $1.97 for a bag of cotton balls, also I have fond memories of my mom making all of my Halloween costumes for me and my brother.  Knowing that she had made them especially for us made them feel really special and I knew no one would have a costume like mine.  I know Blakely may not appreciate it now, but I'm hoping that one day she will!  I really should be working on it now seeing as she is down for a nap.  Ok, cotton balls here I come!

5 Months

I can't believe it!  My baby is 5 months old already!  I'm pretty sure I'm going to say that every month, but it's true.  Time is just flying by!  Blakely is my life and I am enjoying every second with her.  It has been so fun to watch her discover new things.  She is almost sitting up on her own.  She'll kind of weeble wobble for a few seconds then fall to the side.  I think she might be starting to teeth, although I can't see or feel anything.  She puts everything in her mouth and is drooling non-stop!

"What in the world it that?!  Why is it next to me??"
My favorite part of the day is when Blakely first wakes up in the morning.  She is so snugly and sweet!  She gives me a big smile and as soon as I pick her up she burys her little face in my neck.  It melts my heart every time!

I know every mother thinks their baby is beautiful, but seriously....this child is gorgeous!

Blakely just loves nakie-time!

Who doesn't love nakie-time?!
Ok, just a few more.  I just can't help myself!

 this one's a bit blurry

Silly face!  Actually, I'm pretty sure she's pooping!

MIA

So, my internet has been MIA lately so I have not been able to discuss the happenings of the Wright family in almost a month!  We have had lots of family visiting us, and by us, I mean Blakely.  She is the star of this show for sure!  My cousin Jessica and her awesome hubby, Mark, visited us over Labor Day weekend.  She is pregnant and so so cute!  They are having a little girl, and I'm already excited to buy more pink!  Jeff's grandparents also visited us from Utah.  It was so fun for Blakely to be able to meet her Great-grandparents!  They were so cute with her, and of course Blakely was flashing them her biggest smiles!

Blakely is 4 months old already!!  I can't believe how old she is and how much of a personality she has!  She is quite the chunker, and at her last Dr.'s visit he politely told me that my sweet little 4 month old was the size of an average 6 month old!  16# and 5oz.  and 25 3/4" tall.  She can almost sit up on her own.  She is a huge fan of her jumper because she can stand, jump and twirl around.  This child hated being on her tummy.  It makes "tummy time" not so fun...for either of us!  Oh well, maybe she'll be one of those babies that skips the crawling and goes strait to pulling herself up and walking.

These pictures are a little old now, considering by tomorrow Blakely will be 5 months old!  I will be posting her 5 month pictures then...if my internet decides to work.  I hope to not let another month go by before posting something again.  So much happens every week and Blakely is growing so fast that there is a lot to talk about!
